Within hours of hatching, ducklings can walk, swim and follow their mother in a line. Their soft downy feathers keep them warm and within weeks they’re replaced with waterproof feathers for confident swimming. They are highly social, often huddling for warmth and protection, and use cute "peeping" sounds to communicate with their mother and siblings.
